Quote: "But chances are we will never see an “underwear bomber”."

Perhaps you missed the "underwear bomber" attempt on X-mas 2009.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/28/us/28explosives.html

That said, I do think that the full body scanners are a complete violation, of person, privacy and rights. If you have the option for a pat down/normal screening, then they are acceptable for those who don't care.

There are far more serious vulnerabilities that expose the US and other countries to attack, plane attacks are high profile but rarely successful in comparison to other types of bombings/attacks. When are trains, buses and general building/skyscraper securities going to be up to the level that seems to be required to fly? Far more people are located in a skyscraper or passenger train than an airplane.

I'm waiting for the scanner proof underwear to hit the market.

Quite an issue, but it will only be a major airports when it does eventually kick in to the full degree anyway i think. I definitley don't like the idea, but if we want to travel abroad by plane and these are the rules, we either have to get used to it or find another way to travel. I personally like boats :)

Let me get this right.

2 million passengers per day (in the US only) for the past 9 years (since 9/11) equals about 6.5 BILLION passengers.

One nut tries to blow up a plane with explosives in his underwear which failed. (BTW: You can’t put enough explosives in your underwear to down a plane) and now OUR GOVERNMENT want to strip search or physically pat down all AMERICAN travelers at a cost of billions of dollars. WTF?

Nobody has been killed by terrorists on an American aircraft since 9/11!

Odds: 1 in 6.5 billion ? or less? the bombs didn't work!
Powerball 1 in 40 million?
State lottery 1 in 14 million.

I'm 162 times more likely to win the state lottery, than to be killed by terrorists on a plane!

WHAT ARE OUR LEGISLATORS SMOKING?

What about the 300,000 killed in car crashes in the same period?

What's wrong with this picture? Anybody see it like me?

How sad for all those people that were in that earthquake. I am sure that mother nature is pissed. We have all gotten off track of what is important. We need to protect our earth and to remember what life is really about. It makes me sick on how far gone people are in this world. I am sure she is just cleaning up the mess that we have made.
